2013 Alton Miles for Meso 5K Elite Runners Information
The Alton Miles for Meso 5K Race is pleased to once again announce the inclusion of the elite category in its upcoming 5K race at 9:30 a.m., Sept. 21, 2013. To qualify as an elite runner, race officials recommend that runners should have achieved a time of 15:00 or 17:30 in the men’s & women’s categories respectively.

Elite 2013 Cash Prizes
Elite runners will compete in their own race that will follow the age group 5K on race day. The Elite Race begins at 9:30 a.m. Elite athlethes may warm up in the Age Group race, but they must run behind the 5K runners and stay away from the finish line.
Elite runners are eligible to win significant cash prizes for first through 10th place with a total purse of $10,000 plus course record bonus potential. The top ten men and women will earn the following cash prizes:
First place: $2,000
Second place: $1,000
Third place: $750
Fourth place: $500
Fifth place: $250
Note: The Age Group 5K Race Cash Prizes are available to Illinois & Missouri residents only.
Cumulative Course Record
To promote and support a competitive race atmosphere a cumluative course record incentive is being offered through the Alton Miles for Meso race. Anyone who sets a new course record will be awarded a $500 bonus. Each year that the men and women's course records are not bettered an additional $500 will be added to the course record purse.

Time to beat: 16:08 set by Hirut Mandefro in 2012
The course record bonus will only be awarded to the runner who SETS a new course record. For example, if two runners break the current course record in the same race, the bonus will be awarded only to the runner who crosses the finish line first.
Tax Forms & Waiver
Elite runners must fill out the attached waiver and tax forms and bring them to Elite Check In on Race Day. Doing this, will ensure the timely processing of cash prizes. Checks will not be disbursed to athletes or their agents without the proper paperwork.

Elite Race Package
Miles for Meso is pleased to offer a complimentary race package to elite runners that includes the following:
Complimentary entry fees are available for qualified athletes. Elite runners must contact Race Director Mike Wever to receive the complimentary registration code by sending him an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. Then, they must complete the online registration process at milesformeso.racesonline.com and enter the code when prompted.

Twenty men and 20 women who register as elites will be provided a complimentary hotel stay for Friday night in the Alton race hotel. Rooms will be double occupancy at the Alton Super 8.
Directions from the Hotel to the Race
Transportation From Airport
One transfer will depart from Lambert International Airport in St. Louis to Alton at 3 p.m. on Friday. Runners arriving by train or bus should contact Race Director Mike Wever to discuss options.
Please note that transportation costs including air, public transportation or gas expenses WILL NOT be reimbursed.
Transportation From Downtown St. Louis by Bus
Elite athletes may NOT compete in the age group 5K event, but are welcomed and encouraged to warm up and review the course during that event.
The Alton course begins in front of the Simmons Law Firm building at One Court Street. It then winds its way through brick and pavement streets of historic midtown Alton. The course is known for its challenging hills and brick streets against scenic views of the Mississippi River.
