Alton Miles for Meso Raises $25K for a Cure

Posted on Wed Sep 29, 2010 7:12am

We’re excited to announce that the Second Annual Miles for Meso has raised $25,000 for mesothelioma research. The money will go to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation where Director Kathy Weidemer said it will be used to supplement their award program for doctors conducting peer-reviewed research and to help support the foundation’s patient resources offered through its website.

A huge thank you goes to all of our sponsors, running clubs and the volunteers who helped make, not only the Alton race, but all three races a success. We’re still waiting on final numbers, for a total fundraising figure, but check back soon to find out.

Julie Gundlach, a St. Louis native who has been battling mesothelioma for 49 months now, ran in the Alton race. She’s not a fan of running, but she told the Alton Telegraph that she’s grateful she was able to run with her family. She finished with the Miles for Meso 5K with a respectable time right in the middle. You can check out all the results from the 2010 Alton Miles for Meso 5K on our new Results page.

We’ll have our photo gallery updated later in the week, but in the mean time find us on Facebook to not only see photos from the races, but to upload your own!

Now, we’ll start getting ready for the South Florida Miles for Meso race in addition to planning for next year because, as Julie said on Saturday, the race is still ongoing.

“We can never get enough money for research, and we’re going to keep doing this until we find a cure for mesothelioma,” she said.
