John Pavlick MFM Race Raises Over $15K for Mesothelioma Research

Posted on Tue Oct 14, 2014 11:52am

The 4th Annual John Pavlick Miles for Meso 8K & Family Fun Run took place Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Burke Lake Park, Va. Over 100 participants attended the race and family fun run/walk and helped raise over $15,000 to benefit the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation.

The John Pavlick Miles for Meso 8K & Family Fun Run is an annual event held to increase awareness of mesothelioma and to raise research funds for the Meso Foundation.

Before his mesothelioma diagnosis, John and his wife Olga often walked together at Burke Lake Park.  Now  family and friends gather to walk and/or run in this beautiful park to honor his life and work toward finding a cure for this dreaded disease.

Sarah Pavlick, Race Director and John’s daughter, was touched by the support of everyone who attended.

“I would just like to say how honored we were that so many families from the meso community decided to join us on our race day,” Sarah said. “We cherish the relationships that we have formed with other families affected by meso.”

A new feature of this year’s race was the MyHero Race Bibs. They were introduced to pay tribute to patients, mesothelioma warriors and the loved ones of those affected by mesothelioma. The proceeds of these MyHero race bibs directly benefited the Meso Foundation.

“Our MyHero race bibs were a huge success and raised another $400 for the Meso Foundation,” Sarah said. “It was a pleasure to design each one and learn even more about the loved ones that have been lost to meso.”

The MyHero bibs were made from durable material and replicated the official race bibs worn by participants. Sarah hopes they will be cherished as mementos for years to come.
