Alton Miles for Meso passes 1-month mark

The Alton Miles for Meso 5K Race & Fun Walk is only a month away and already we have dozens of people signing up to help us celebrate Mesothelioma Awareness Day and spread the word about mesothelioma and how it’s a fatal, man-made epidemic that shouldn’t exist. News is spreading fast, so we encourage everyone to register early. If you do register before Sept. 16, the cost is only $15. After that, it’s $20 and $25 on race day.

Miles for Meso keeps growing. Another race has been added to the line-up of races happening the weekend of Mesothelioma Awareness Day. Mesothelioma survivor Janelle Bedel is organizing a Miles for Meso 5K Run & Walk on Sept. 25 at the Rush County fairgrounds in Rushville, Indiana.

The first Miles for Meso was an exciting day. We had nearly 500 register, and the streets of Alton were filled with people showing support for the fight against mesothelioma. Words can't really describe it, but hopefully this video can do the day service.

The Simmons firm, a leading national law firm in the fight against mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases, will present the second Miles for Meso 5K run and walk on Sunday, October 11, in University City, at 8 a.m. Registrations are being accepted at www.milesformeso.org. The first annual Miles for Meso event was held September 26 in Alton, Ill. Nearly 500 runners and walkers registered, and through matching donations by the Simmons firm raised approximately $30,000.

September 26th is going to be a good day. Not only will we have cash prizes for our dedicated runners in the 5K (not to mention a $500 in random drawings for all participants), but when the clock starts at 9 a.m. on Mesothelioma Awareness Day, September 26th, we expect to see a mass of runners hit the historic streets of Alton, Illinois. People of all ages, from throughout the St. Louis area, gathering together to help draw attention to mesothelioma, a rare cancer that desperately needs more attention.
