Register for Miles for Meso in Alton, Illinois, just 20 minutes from downtown St. Louis!
On October 11, 2009, hundreds of runners, walkers, families and friends gathered in St. Louis, Missouri to participate in the second Miles for Meso 5K. The event was led and organized by Julie Gundlach, who has been living with mesothelioma cancer since 2006.
Gundlach ran in the 5K that began at Centennial Commons. “Unfortunately, mesothelioma is now everyone’s problem,” she said. “It’s my hope that through events like this, people to start to understand that this is a preventable disease, and that we need everyone’s help.”
Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. The event raised over $20,000 for mesothelioma research. 100 percent of all entry fees went to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, a national nonprofit dedicated to funding critical research for better treatment options and, ultimately, to find a cure for mesothelioma.
