Mesothelioma survivor shares her story with St. Louis' Channel 5

Posted on Fri Sep 24, 2010 9:30am

Meso survivor Julie Gundlach plans to run in tomorrow’s Alton Miles for Meso race. Her decision doesn’t even compare to all the other challenges this 39-year-old mother has faced during her battle with mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive cancer caused by asbestos exposure.

Julie shared her inspiring story with KSDK Channel 5’s news anchor Kay Quinn last night. And the news station generously included information about Saturday’s race.

Julie was diagnosed in 2006 and opted for an aggressive treatment at Columbia University in New York because, as she told Quinn, she wanted to give her daughter a future that included her mom.

"I can't imagine her nine or ten without a mom," she said. "The high school graduation without a mom; I mean you can't even, I can't even wrap my mind around that. It was much easier to wrap my mind around packing my bags and going to New York."
