Alton Miles for Meso 5K Run & 3K Fun Run/Walk

16th Annual Event Returns Sept. 21, 2024

Miles for Meso is a 5K race and 3K fun run/walk that has taken place in Alton, Illinois since 2009. Hosted by Simmons Hanly Conroy and Metro Tri Club, this exciting event coincides with National Mesothelioma Awareness Day in September. Next year’s event will take place on Sept. 21, 2024 both in-person and virtually.

About the Race

Miles for Meso races across the country have raised more than $890,000 in proceeds benefiting multiple mesothelioma charities including the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization, and the Meso Program at Penn Medicine.

2023 Registration Info

IN-PERSON ONLINE REGISTRATION

Early Registration: $35, June 28  – Aug. 25

Regular Registration: $40, Aug. 26 – Sept. 8

Late Registration: $45, Sept. 9 – Sept. 17

NOTE: Registration closes at midnight CST on the dates listed.

RACE DAY REGISTRATION

Registration in-person will be available on-site starting at 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. Cost is $45. Shirt sizes are available on a first-serve, first-come basis.

VIRTUAL REGISTRATION

Virtual Registration: $40 June 28-Sept. 8 – Register by this date to guarantee your shirt size. Choose this option if you want your packets mailed to you.

Virtual Race Kickoff: Sept. 23  at 9 a.m. CST. Attend the virtual event on Facebook.

Record Virtual Results: Sept. 23 9 a.m. -Sept 24 11:59 p.m. CST.

OPTION 1: Track with the Runkeeper App

Step 1: Connect your registration: On your mobile device, download the app and add your Virtual 5K Race registration

Step 2: Record your participation

When you’re ready to participate:

  • Open the Runkeeper app on a mobile device
  • Visit the “start” tab
  • Tap the in-app checkered flag and select your event
  • Follow the prompts to record your participation

Option 2: Manually post results

If you plan to record using another software or tracking device and need to post manually, simply head to the results page and “Submit Virtual Result”. Your confirmation number and last name can be used to confirm your registration before submitting your results.

WARRIOR BIBS

Blank warrior bibs will be included in all the packets.

2023 PRIZES

Everyone who registers will receive a participation medal.

Cash prizes for the Top 5 men and women runners are as follows:

First: $500
Second: $250
Third: $200
Fourth: $100
Fifth: $50

High school and college-level athletes are ineligible to receive cash prizes due to IMSA/MHSA and NCAA eligibility requirements. Alternative prizes will be given to student athletes in lieu of cash who place in the top five of the men’s and women’s categories.

Medals will be awarded to the top 3 men and women in-person runners according to the following age groups:

35-39
40-44
45-49
50-54
55-59
60-64
65-69
70 & up

TOP FUNDRAISING TEAMS

The top three fundraising teams will also receive awards to recognize their contributions in helping reach our fundraising goal of $25,000 for the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization. These final fundraising amount will be announced on race day during the awards ceremony.

T-SHIRT AND PACKET PICK-UP

Everyone who registers will receive a long-sleeved, moisture-wicking T-shirt. Sizes can only be guaranteed for those registered by Aug. 25. After that, sizes are given out in order of registration.

Virtual attendees: Register by Sept. 8 to guarantee your shirt is ready in time for you to wear on race day.

In-person runners and walkers can pick up their packets at Simmons Hanly Conroy’s headquarters at 1 Court Street, Alton, IL on Sept. 22 from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. CST. Shirts and packets may also be picked up on race day.

7:30 a.m. – Race Day Registration Opens

7:30 a.m. – Vendor Fair and Kid Zone Opens

8:15 a.m. – Warrior Bib Group Photo

8:45 a.m. – National Anthem

9:00 a.m. – 5K Race/3K Fun Walk Begins

10:15 a.m. – Awards Ceremony Begins

The back of the firm where pre- and post- events will be held is located catty-corner from Marquette Catholic High School on Fourth Street. The starting line is near the intersection of Fourth and Alton streets.

PARKING

Free parking is available in lots that can be entered on Alby St (across from the First Presbyterian Church of Alton), E 4th Street, E 5th Street, or Easton Street (Staten-Fine Funeral Home parking lot) in Alton. Please note, the Simmons Hanly Conroy parking lot will be closed for parking since it is the location of Miles for Meso activities.
