Miles for Meso: 5 Simple Ways You Can Help

Posted on Mon Jul 18, 2011 8:16am

The 3rd Annual Alton Miles for Meso 5K Race and 2K Fun Run/Walk is schedule for Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011. If you are interested in getting involved with this year’s race, here are five easy ways to do so.

Tell everyone you know

Taking a few minutes to forward the Miles for Meso email that went out earlier this week is an easy way to support this year’s race. Other easy ways to spread the word about the race is to “like” the Miles for Meso Facebook Fan Page and follow us on Twitter. By doing this, you’ll receive registration reminders, news updates and more that you can then share with your own network of family, friends and colleagues.

Post flyers around your home town

Please consider taking a few race posters and tacking them up around your home town community. Any place where people regularly visit is a potential spot. Examples include grocery store bulletin boards, church bulletin boards, schools, local store windows and others.

To get posters, email us at info@milesformeso.org with the number of posters you need, and we will send them to you.

Volunteer to help race day

If you're not a runner, there's plenty of other ways you can help through volunteering. We will need people to volunteer for the following jobs:

Registration: These people help get racers registered the day of the event, give them their T-shirt and answer any last minute questions participants have.

Course Marshalls: We will need several groups of people to be present along the course during race time. They make sure participants are going the correct way and watch out and prevent any unsafe situations.

Water Stops: A water stop is available on the race course where runners can take a moment and grab a drink of water. We will need people to man this table and make sure that the area is tidy once the race finishes.

Runners: Race day can be hectic and we'll need people who can adapt and smooth out last minute details. This can mean anything from running to the store to buy extra water bottles or filling in for another volunteer who's had to leave unexpectedly.

Set up & Tear Down: This is a great way to still volunteer even if you're running in the race. Before and after the race, we will need people to help set up tents, tables, chairs and etc. Then, afterward, it needs to come back down again.

If you are interested in any of the above, e-mail us at info@milesformeso.org by the beginning of August with your volunteer request.

Sign up for the race

There are several ways to register for this year’s race. You can register right now online by clicking here to go to the Miles for Meso active.com registration page. Registration costs $15 for the Age Group 5K race through Sept. 14. After that it’s $20 and then $25 on race day.

You can also print out the PDF registration form and mail it to:

Miles for Meso
c/o Metro Tri Club
P.O. Box 904
Edwardsville, IL 62025

Donate if you can't attend

If you can’t attend the race, then making a donation – even if it’s the same amount as the $15 registration fee – is a great way to show your support and be involved. This year, for the first time, Miles for Meso has set up a donation page through Active.com. Visit it by clicking here.
